Greetings fellow trailblazers! ✨
Allow me to share the story of something that’s been keeping me quite busy:
As a designer by heart and education, I’ve always been captivated by the intricacies of form and function. But my real muses? Pip and Puk, two sister shelter cats, better known as the true rules of our tiny kingdom.
As our kingdom lacks the luxury of a garden, it became my mission to create a furry friendly paradise that was as amusing as what the great outdoors has to offer. I know right, sounds like mission impossible. Thus my humble quest began, in search for cat furniture that was cool. Sadly local stores were a letdown and everything I encountered was either boring, flimsy or dusty as f*ck.
Since I was looking for the opposite of an eyesore I did the usual: Taking matters into my own hands. The debut creation was the “Cat Cave” – a lofty perch in our living room where Pip and Puk could snooze, spy, and creep the shit out of our guests with their innocent stares. After that I designed a cabinet that would hide the litterbox, keep the dust in the box and help to keep the poopy smells out of your nose.
At this point in time I thought it was just a personal project, little did I know that this endeavor, born out of love and necessity, would soon evolve into something more. After my brother came to visit at our place we started talking about a custom furniture piece for his cat-friend, Mumu. So without hesitation, I started sketching and designing.
A couple of days later we were redecorating our living room when I noticed how energetic and playful Pip and Puk became. The changes were somehow sparking the joy of their life. So I started experimenting with some chairs and other random objects to observe their behaviour. Quickly I came to realise that they didn’t need much to trigger their curiosity. It didn’t really matter what it was, as long as it was in a new spot, configured differently. It was all about contextual change, an endless changing playground. It was that same quality of endless change that the great outdoors had to offer.
Soon, these insights merged with my brother’s request. The idea of a modular cat tower was born—a piece that could transform to keep the curiosity alive. I couldn’t wait to bring it to life. Days blurred into nights as I sketched and 3D modeled, my mind racing with possibilities. Optimizing for production and user experience. How could I ensure easy assembly and minimal waste? I remember my brain buzzing with at least 30 different connection methods.
And now, after all the hard work. Here we are, ready to introduce Mumu, the modular cat tower designed to evolve with your feline’s whims. It’s not just furniture; it’s an ever-changing playground that keeps their world exciting!
